"Sssplits" in 2006
Each week a group of crazy individuals meet up to contort themselves into some very odd positions! These masochists want to split themselves in two! Being the obliging folks that we are at the Fitzroy Pilates Studio, we try to assist of course. Here’s what we do:
- Ask them to make an initial attempt at the front and side splits, which we photograph for later comparison!
- Select a series of stretches from two sources: the book "Stretching & Flexibility" (Kit Laughlin) and the DVD set "Innovations in Pilates" (Laughlin & Lett).
- A series of isolated stretches for all the muscle groups involved in achieving the front and side splits is then performed.
- We make another final attempt at front and side splits at the end of the session.
Basic programme
After a period of two or three months, we assess where we are at, how far we have come and who wants to continue. So our program is not terribly strict in terms of scientific rigor, but it’s fun nevertheless.

Suitability & benefits
New participants are welcome to join us at any time. Some participants join to enhance sporting, martial arts or dance activities, and some just because they like to set themselves goals. Whether you achieve full splits or not, we promise that you will enjoy the process and feel better anyway.
